University of Tennessee Dr. Lewis’ two younger daughters both attend the University of Tennessee and love it. The older of the two is a member of the “Pride of the Southland” band. It’s always fun to go visit them especially for ballgame weekends OSHA Update The office staff recently completed a refresher course on OSHA regulations. Many important items are covered during these annual courses including infection control, personal protective equipment, emergencies in the dental
office, safety, hazard waste disposal, ergonomics, MSDSs, hazard chemical communication, and others. The staff looks forward to these sessions because they get pizza and get to grill the boss on all the above.

The Velscope is an addition to our cancer screening procedures. By shinning a certain wavelength of blue light on the mucosa and viewing the area through filters, suspicious areas show up as dark areas that can be photographed and evaluated further. The advantage is catching dysplasia or cancer early before it can be seen with the naked eye. Early detection and treatment is crucial in a favorable prognosis. We can check any questionable areas anytime also.
ImageMax Processor
The office mainly uses digital radiography, however, there are times when the old technology is useful. Anything digital can eventually have issues. Having a back up plan can come in handy. So the office recently replaced an old X-ray processor with a new ImageMax processor. This processor eliminates some of the problems with the old technology by getting rid of the need to transport film through the developing and fixing solutions. The film remains stationary and the solutions are pumped in and out of the film chamber. This eliminates transport cartridges, rollers, gears, and the cleaning and maintenance of these items. The staff have appreciated the new ImageMax. It also produces a much better and more diagnostic film.
